On May 25, 2018, the European Union (EU) will begin to enforce a new data protection regulation called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The GDPR is designed to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens’ data privacy and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy.

ReadCube is fully committed to achieving compliance with the GDPR by the May 25, 2018 enforcement date. This page overviews the steps we are taking and helps address questions you may have about GDPR and ReadCube.

FAQS

What is GDPR?

On May 25, 2018, the European Union (EU) will begin to enforce a new data protection regulation, the General Data Protection Regulation or Regulation (GDPR). The GDPR is designed to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens’ data privacy and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy.

Who does GDPR impact?

The GDPR applies to organizations located within the EU in addition to organizations located outside of the EU if they offer goods or services to, or monitor the behavior of, EU natural persons or ‘data subjects.’ It applies to all companies processing and holding the personal data of data subjects residing in the EU, regardless of the company’s location.

How is ReadCube preparing for GDPR?

Our teams have been working to define and implement our GDPR roadmap for the past few months. Luckily, ReadCube’s existing approach to the use of personal information means we’re already compliant in a lot of areas, but we are working hard to make changes where required, including:

Data Portability and Deletion

We’ve already had this functionality available.  You can easily export all of your data out of ReadCube via your desktop app or web app PLUS you now can delete your profile through your account page without having to contact support.

Strong security measures

Security has always been a priority for us. We have regular external audits from a third-party security firm and have internal access design to ensure the right people within our organization have access to the right level of customer data.

Reviewing/Updating Our Policies

We’ve had our legal team review our existing privacy policy (Privacy) and plan to release a new version to ensure that it supports all the GDPR requirements in time for May 25.
